I am super excited to announce that I will be teaming up with the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State for a post screening discussion of the Oscar-winning film, “20 Feet from Stardom.” The event will take place at the Rialto on Wednesday, October 11 at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
“20 Feet from Stardom” shines a spotlight on the untold true story of the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century. Triumphant and heartbreaking in equal measure, the film is both a tribute to the unsung voices who brought shape and style to popular music and a reflection on the conflicts, sacrifices and rewards of a career spent harmonizing with others. The featured performers include Táta Vega, Judith Hill, Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Claudia Lennear and The Waters.
It also includes Grammy winning vocalist—Lisa Fischer—who will be performing later on in the month on Saturday, October 28 as part of the Rialto’s 2017-18 season. Fischer is best known for her hit record, “How Can I Ease the Pain” and provided background sounds for Tina Turner, Luther Vandross, Sting and The Rolling Stones.
Tune into this Saturday’s edition of #UPFRONT (September 23 at 9 a.m.) when I will reveal my special guest singers for the post film discussion. We’ll also have more information about the event on RC as well.
See you there!
