‘RACE’ actor Stephan James to star in ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’

CONGRATS to “Race” and “Selma” actor Stephan James. He will be starring in Barry Jenkins‘ film adaptation of James Baldwin’s “If Beale Street Could Talk.”

The story’s synopis reads as follows:

Fonny and Tish are in love and their love protects them from their respective dysfunctional families and the outside world until Fonny is falsely accused of rape. After his imprisonment, Tish finds out she is pregnant and she, her family, and her lawyer race against the clock to find evidence that frees Fonny before the baby is born.

According to VARIETY, the James will portray Fonny. Jenkins is reportedly casting for the role of Tish and will announce the actress in the coming weeks.  As previously reported, Jenkins wrote the screenplay during the summer of 2013 along with “Moonlight” and has been working with Baldwin’s Estate and his sister, Gloria Karefa-Smart.

James most recently appeared in the Fox drama, “Shots Fired.”
