‘BlackGirlsRock’ to honor Roberta Flack, Issa Rae, Yara Shahidi & more!

“BLACK GIRLS ROCK!™” is back!

The 2017 awards ceremony will tape on August 5 in the Prudential Hall of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and will broadcast on BET Sunday, August 20 at 8 p.m. EST. This year’s honorees include music icon Roberta Flack, who will be picking up the Living Legend Award along with the Star Power Award going to “Insecure” creator, actress, writer and producer Issa Rae.

“Black-ish” actress and activist Yara Shahidi will take home the Young Gifted and Black Award while Wall Street powerhouse and pioneer Suzanne Shank is this year’s Shot Caller Award recipient. Community Organizers Derrica Wilson and Natalie Wilson of The Black & Missing Foundation will receive the Community Change Agent Award.

BET has not been confirmed who will be hosting this year’s show. In the past, it has been held down by award winning actresses Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King. RC will keep you posted as to who will be rocking the mic for this year’s show.
