Regina King to star in FX drama about the Atlanta Child Murders

Emmy winning actress and director Regina King is teaming up with award winning producer John Ridley for an upcoming FX series titled, “No Place Safe.” The drama is based on the Atlanta Child Murders of the late 70s and early 80s and is inspired by Kim Reid‘s memoir of the same name.

According to DEADLINE, the story is centered on Reid’s teenage years as she struggles with becoming a young woman and the senseless murders that are taking place around Atlanta. Reid’s mother served as an investigator on the real case.

In addition to starring in the project, King will produce the series through her production company, Royal Ties and will also work alongside her sister—Reina King.

The Atlanta Child Murders took place between 1979-1981 and included the deaths of nearly 28 boys and adult men. Atlanta native, Wayne Williams, was arrested and convicted of two of the adult murders and is currently serving time two consecutive life sentences. While he was not tried or convicted of the other murders, he has been widely associated with them.

This is the second project in the last year to focus on the infamous case. In 2016, Atlanta’s own Actor’s Express featured Janine Nabers‘ production of “Serial Black Face.” The stage play followed a single mother named Vivian, who is coping with the disappearance of her son and a mysterious love interest who comes into her life at the same time. The show ran from April 2-14 and featured Jasmine Guy‘s daughter, Imani Guy as Vivians’s difficult teenage daughter.

RC will keep you posted on this project as it continues to develop.
