HBO has released the new trailer and premiere date for the upcoming film, “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” starring Oprah Winfrey.
As previously reported, Henrietta Lacks was an African-American woman who died of cervical cancer in 1951. Without her consent, pieces of the tumor that killed her were removed and used for medical exploration and to build a billion-dollar research industry. The film is based on Rebecca Skloot‘s nonfiction book of the same name and features Winfrey as Lacks’ daughter, Deborah Lacks.
The project also features Renee Elise Goldsberry, Courtney B. Vance, Leslie Uggams, Rocky Carroll, Rose Byrne, Reg E. Cathey, Reed Birney, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, John Douglas Thompson, Adriane Lenox, Kyanna Simone Simpson and Roger Robinson.
Lacks’ sons—David Lacks, Jr. and Zakariyya Rahman, and her granddaughter Jeri Lacks served as consultants to the film alongside Winfrey, who is also the executive producer.
“The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” airs on HBO Saturday, April 22!
