The late, great Nina Simone once said, “It’s an artist duty to reflect the times,” and that is exactly what acclaimed choreographer, Robert Battle is doing. The executive director of the world renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, has teamed up with three of his dancers for a beautiful new piece that pays homage to Barry Jenkin‘s Oscar nominated film, “Moonlight.”

The project, which was filmed by Anna Rose Holmer, features Ailey’s own Jamar Roberts and The Ailey School students Christopher Taylor and Jeremy T. Villas. Much like the film, it spotlight’s three African-American males of different ages who dance to blue-lit movement and Nicholas Britell’s amazing musical score.
