Grammy winning-music star Pharrell Williams is looking dapper as usual for the upcoming February issue of ESQUIRE Magazine. Inside, the content creator addresses his concerns for our nation’s future and its need to provide more leadership opportunities for women and girls.

“I don’t know what I could do, but I know if women wanted to, they could save this nation. If women wanted to, they could save the world…” says Williams. “Women have a lot to carry, right? Including the entire human species. That’s deep. And still they don’t have an equal say on this planet. That’s insane. Meanwhile, their feelings are suppressed, their spirits are oppressed, and their ambitions are repressed.”

Williams also talked about working as an executive producer on “Hidden Figures,” which opens in theaters this weekend, as well as scoring the film’s soundtrack with the world renowned music composer—Hans Zimmer. He also dished about not being the true creator of his music but rather a conduit for the words and melodies to flow through him.

“I think everything is given to us,” he says. “Everything is. We didn’t create it. It’s being given to us in one shape or form. It is a deep delusion to think otherwise. I’m not the juice. I’m not the ice that makes it cool. And I’m certainly not the glass. I’m just the straw.”
