NAACP Image Award winner and beloved television and film actress Cassi Davis has a lot to be smiling about these days. For starters, she will be returning to prime time television next year in a reboot of Tyler Perry‘s popular series, “House of Payne” for the Oprah Winfrey Network. The newly titled show, “The Paynes” will reunite Davis with her TV husband, LaVan Davis and will focus on the couple’s life after retirement.
In addition to the new project, Davis is also sporting a beautiful wedding ring as she recently jumped the broom in Las Vegas (20 days ago) and married her long-time friend and high school sweetheart, Kerry Patton.
“I am so excited. We met in the third grade and of course you grow up and you go your separate ways and we were apart for about twenty years and divinely God brought us back together in 2007. You know, you think you’re committed and you say you’re committed but life just has to live itself and then afterwards, were good. And so now, were married,” said the Spelman College alumnus.
Davis began her career in Spike Lee‘s classic film, “School Daze” and later appeared on episodes of “Living Single,” “Married…with Children” and “Kenan & Kel.” But its has been her stage work with Tyler Perry and her TV and film roles as Ella Payne and Aunt Bam, that have kept her in the spotlight over the years. For Davis, every opportunity to work with the entertainment mogul has proven to be a blessing from above.
“It’s a dream every time he calls. It’s like, ‘you’re calling me again?’ Oh, God thank you! So listen, I live for Aunt Bam and I live for Aunt Ella.”
You can catch the rest of my interview with Cassi Davis this Saturday morning at 9 a.m. on “UPFRONT” Inside Atlanta’s Entertainment Industry. Also, don’t forget that “Boo! A Madea Halloween” and “Tyler Perry’s Madea on the Run” are available now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD.
