CONGRATS to “Hidden Figures” actress Janelle Monáe! She has been nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award and may walk away with the “Best Suppoting Actress” honors during Sunday’s ceremony. Monáe portrays Mary Jackson, one of three African-American women who were instrumental in NASA’s first successful space missions. The film has also garnered nominations for “Best Acting Ensemble” and “Best Adapted Screenplay.”
Other nominees include Viola Davis for “Best Actress” and Denzel Washington for “Best Actor” for their roles in “Fences.” The film has also earned nods for “Best Picture,” “Best Director” for Washington and “Best Adapted Screenplay” for the late August Wilson.
Versatile actor Mahershala Ali also picked up a “Best Supporting Actor” nomination for his role in “Moonlight” along with his co-star Alex R. Hibbert who earned a “Best Young Actor” nod and Barry Jenkins for “Best Director.”
John Legend‘s “La La Land” is also up for a whopping 12 nominations including “Best Picture,” “Best Actor,” “Best Actress,” and “Best Director.”
