“24 Legacy” and “Straight Outta Compton” actor Corey Hawkins will star as the famous con artist David Hampton in a Broadway revival of “Six Degrees of Separation.” The play, which was written by John Guare, was inspired by Hampton who convinced several New York City aristocrats during the early 1980s to give him money, food and shelter because he was the son of screen legend Sidney Poitier. The play was later turned into a film in 1993 and starred Will Smith, Donald  Sutherlin, Anthony Michael Hall and Stockard Channing, who received an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for her role.

Hampton, who was convinced that he should have been compensated by Guare, later died from AIDS-related complications in 2003.

On a personal note, “Six Degrees of Separation” was one of my favorite movies to watch in high school. I could look at it over and over again and find something new each time. I absolutely adored Ms. Channing as the Manhattan socialite “Ouisa Kittredge” and totally loved this final scene in the movie. It was also my first introduction to famed Russian painter Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky, who is often referenced in the film.

RC will keep you posted as this project continues to develop!
