Check out a preview for EPIX‘s new docu-series “America Divided.” It is executive produced by the iconic Norman Lear as well as Shonda Rhimes and Common.
The five-episode program features timely narratives around inequality in education, housing, healthcare, labor, criminal justice and the political system. The first episode debuts tomorrow night (Friday, Sept. 30) at 9 p.m. along with episode 2 on Oct. 7, episode 3 on Oct. 14, episode 4 on Oct. 28 and the finale on Nov. 4.
Here are a few highlights:
Oscar®-‐winning hip-‐hop artist Common returns to his hometown of Chicago — ground zero for disparities in the criminal justice system.
Actress Rosario Dawson travels to Flint, Michigan to investigate the man-‐made disaster behind the city’s water crisis.
Emmy®– and Golden Globe®-‐winning actress America Ferrera travels to Texas, where migrants who have entered the country illegally are the focus of hostility, and where even US-‐born children are denied basic rights.
Legendary TV producer Norman Lear, investigates gentrification and displacement in a city of people with no homes and homes with no people and goes undercover to expose racial discrimination in housing.
“Grey’s Anatomy” star and former teacher Jesse Williams goes back to the classroom to study the battle to fix inequality in education and learns of a daunting school-‐to-‐prison pipeline.
Other episodes include actor and comedian Zach Galifianakis, actor and activists Peter Sarsgaard and Golden Globe®-‐winning and Emmy®-‐nominated actress and producer Amy Poehler.
“America Divided” was created by Solly Granatstein (“Years Of Living Dangerously,” “60 Minutes”), Lucian Read (“Years of Living Dangerously,” 99%) and Richard Rowley (Dirty Wars, “Years of Living Dangerously”).
