RuPaul wins first Emmy for RuPaul’s Drag Race!

ConDRAGulations goes out to Logo star RuPaul Charles on winning his first Emmy Award during the past weekend’s Creative Emmy’s Award Ceremony. The legendary drag performer picked up the coveted award for “Outstanding Host of a Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Program.”

“I came here thinking, ’Wow, I got invited to the prom—and I’m gonna dance my ass off,” he said. “But I didn’t think I would have this [award] in my hand when I was dancing,” said RuPaul to press after receiving his award.

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards honor outstanding artistic and technical achievement in a variety of television program genres, guest performances in weekly series, as well as exceptional work in the animation, reality and documentary categories. The show will air this Saturday, September 17 on FXX.

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on Sunday, September 18 at 7 p.m. on ABC. Nominees this year include Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Idris Elba, Courtney B.Vance, Cuba Gooding Jr., Viola Davis, Audra McDonald, Kerry Washington, Titus Burgess, Keegan Michael-Key, Sterling K. Brown, Regina King and more.
