YAY! My favorite new show of this year “Underground” is slated to film its highly anticipated second season in Georgia. According to the AJC‘s Rodney Ho, the John Legend executive produced series is currently listed in the Georgia Film Office and is moving production from Louisiana to the peach state. The move, however, has not been officially announced by the show’s network, WGN.
As previously mentioned, “Underground” centers on a group of slaves planning a daring 600-mile escape from a Georgia plantation and stars Aldis Hodge, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Christopher Meloni, Amirah Vann and more. The series aired on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. EST and was a breakout hit for the iconic Chicago-based network. I knew the show was going to be popular when I interviewed Smollett-Bell about her role as RosaLee in February. I also got a chance to chop it up with actress Adina Porter, who played the role of Pearlie Mae.
This news further validates Georgia as the Hollywood South and why the state was able to generate 7 billion dollars in film and television production revenue.
Way to go Georgia!
