Actor’s Express Theatre presents the Atlanta premiere of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Appropriate October 29 – November 20, 2016.
In this raucous dark comedy, the dysfunctional Lafayette siblings descend on their ancestral Arkansas home to settle their father’s estate. When they start digging through an accumulation of hoarded junk, they uncover more than a crumbling plantation mansion. A disturbing secret discovered among the clutter launches them into a scorchingly funny theatrical family fight fest and forces them to question the father they thought they knew.
Winner of the 2014 Obie Award for Best New American Play, the Washington Post heralded the play as “biliously funny” and Time Out Chicago called it “an exceptionally brilliant piece of writing.” AE Artistic Director Freddie Ashely will direct, saying, “This deliciously subversive play is one of the best things I’ve ever seen at the Humana Festival for New American Plays. It is like a bowling ball to the gut, so fasten your seatbelts!”
Performances of Appropriate are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. Tickets start at $28 and may be purchased online at actors-express.com or by calling 404-607-7469.
