I had the pleasure of attending a private press dinner and screening Tuesday night for WEtv’s hit reality series, “Cutting It in the ATL. It was held at Del Frisco’s Grille in Buckhead and was hosted by the network’s executives as well as this season’s new and returning cast members.
The evening began with a cocktail hour (which I totally missed) followed by a few press shots of the hair divas—Dedra Allen, Maja Sly, Beautii, LaKenya Morris and Mushiya Tshikuka, who dramatically entered the room wearing a “Black Lives Matter” ensemble and holding her fist proudly in the air. Following cast photos was a formal sit-down dinner where I spotted many of my media colleagues including Janeé Bolden of Bossip, Q aka Funky Dineva, KarmaJonezKnows.com and Satchel Jester of UPSCALE.
Prior to the screening, we all got a chance to see WEtv’s upcoming reality series “Jim and Chrissy: Vow or Never.” It follows former “Love and Hip Hop” stars Jim Jones and Chrissy Lampkin as they prepare to jump the broom after a five-year long “off again, on again” engagement. It will air beginning September 1 at 10 p.m. EST.
Following the sneak peek of “Jim and Chrissy” was the new season’s first episode of “Cutting It” where tensions appear to be extremely high between all the ladies. As previously reported, Beautii hosts an industry event with local radio personality Jazzy MacBee. The ladies all come together to support; however, trading business cards quickly turns into throwing shade, as Dedra and her newest partner in crime, Tre’ Stylez, bring the event to a hair raising halt. LaKenya is posed with a difficult decision, as she starts to lose clients who are looking for higher quality hair. As a business owner she will do anything to save her business…even if it means engaging the enemy behind Maja’s back. With the title of Atlanta Hair Boss up for grabs, loyalties between the ladies have never been so fleeting. There will also appearances by celebrity stylist to the stars Stephen Webster and Pat, the “original” creator of the “$50 Weave” and Maja’s new arch enemy.
