Check out the first look trailer for “Queen Sugar,” the new original series airing on Oprah Winfrey‘s network, OWN and directed by Ava DuVernay.

As previously reported, the one-hour series is based on the book of the same name by Natalie Baszile and follows the life of two sisters, Nova Bordelon and Charley Bordelon, who, with her teenage son Micah moves to the heart of Louisiana to claim an inheritance from her recently departed father – an 800-acre sugarcane farm.

“I loved this book and immediately saw it as a series for OWN,” said Winfrey, who will also co-star in the series. ‘The story’s themes of reinventing your life, parenting alone, family connections and conflicts, and building new relationships are what I believe will connect our viewers to this show.”

“Queen Sugar” stars Rutina Wesley as Nova and Dawn Lyen-Gardner as Charley along with Kofi Siriboe, Tina Lifford, Omar J Dorsey, Dondre Whitfield and more.

The trailer has been airing during OWN’s two-night premiere of “Greenleaf.”
