Netflix has released a second trailer for its new coming-of-age series, “The Get Down.” As previously reported, the 70’s inspired show was created by Baz Luhrmann and Shawn Ryan and is being described as “a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco.” It also features the heartbeat of the city at that time including the Bronx tenements, the SoHo art scene, CBGB, Studio 54 and the newly-built World Trade Center.

The Get Down features Justice Smith as “Ezekiel,” Shameik Moore as “Shaolin Fantastic,” Skylan Brooks as “Ra Ra,” Tremaine Brown, Jr. as “Boo Boo,” Herizen Guardiola as “Mylene Cruz,” Yahya Abdul-Mateen as “Cadillac,” Mamoudou Athie as “Grandmaster Flash,” along with veteran stars Jimmy Smits as “Francisco Cruz aka Papa Fuerte” and Giancarlo Esposito as “Pastor Ramon Cruz.” Recurring roles will be played by Jaden Smith as “Marcus ‘Dizzee’ Kipling,” Yolonda Ross as “Ms. Green,” Zabryna Guevara as “Mrs. Cruz,” and Sal Redino as “Stanley Kelly.” The 13 one-hour episodes begin August 12.
