TLC’s Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins is gearing up to executive produce a new teenage musical based on her group’s classic R&B hit, “What About Your Friends?”

According to S&A, the multi Grammy winning-entertainer is teaming up with media personality and reality show producer Carlton Jordan for a new story about what happens when a talent contest comes to a small Southern town. The film is currently being developed and will be released through Watkins newly formed production company, ATLA.

“WAYF is a film where young black girls can see themselves as more than just a side kick or the best friend but all types of characters on the spectrum, existing in a world together,” Jordan says. “This film is #BlackGirlMagic #BlackGirlsRock personified… Everyone’s celebrating hip hop nostalgia… but this film is one big homage to R&B and the divas that created a new sound from the late 80’s to the early 2000s.”

This will be Watkins third try at executive producing a film having already served as one on “ATL” and “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story.”

Stay tuned…
