Anthony Mackie explains why he decided to play MLK in ‘All the Way’ (VIDEO)

“Captain America: Civil War” star Anthony Mackie recently talked to “Access Hollywood” about why he decided to take on the role of iconic civil right leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for HBO’s upcoming film “All the Way.”

As previously reported, “All the Way” focuses on President Lyndon B. Johnson‘s efforts to get the controversial Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed in Congress and features Bryan Cranston as Johnson and Melissa Leo as Lady Bird Johnson.

The cast also includes Stephen Root as J. Edgar Hoover, Aisha Hinds as Fannie Lou HamerMo McRae as Stokely Carmichael and Frank Langella as Senator Richard Russell 

“All the Way” is based on the Broadway play of the same name and is taken from LBJ’s campaign slogan. The film version was executive produced by Steven Spielberg and premieres on May 21.
