Congrats to “Scandal” star Kerry Washington! According to Deadline, she has just inked a new deal with ABC studios and it’s cable and digital division—ABC Signature Studios.
Reportedly, Washington’s new Simpson Street Production Company will develop broadcast, cable and digital projects exclusively for ABC Studios and ABC Signature Studios. Her recent HBO drama “Confirmation” was the first of many projects from her new company and was produced in conjunction with ABC Signature along with HBO and Groundswell Productions. The film featured Washington as attorney and college professor Anita Hall and was a retelling of her accusations of sexual harassment against then-Supreme Court Justice nominee Clarence Thomas.
“I believe strongly in the importance of having a seat at the table, which makes starting this production company thrilling for me,” Washington said. “It’s an honor to be at a point in my career when I can help generate projects that that are exciting, necessary and truly reflect the world around us. I’m grateful to be on this journey with ABC, a network that remains unparalleled in its commitment to inclusive storytelling.”
Simpson Street Productions pays homage to the streets where Washington’s mother grew up in the Bronx, New York.
