“Electric Lady” Janelle Monae is about to make her film debut in the upcoming Fox 2000 drama “Hidden Figures.” The Grammy winning-pop star will share the screen with Oscar winning-actress Octavia Spencer and Oscar nominated-actress Taraji P. Henson.

In “Hidden Figures,” mathematicians Dorothy Vaughn, Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnson serve as the brains behind America’s race against Russia to put a man in space. The trio quickly rose the ranks of NASA and were known as “human computers.” Monae will portray Jackson while Henson is slated to play Johnson and Spencer will play Vaughn. The ladies will be joined by veteran actor Kevin Costner as head of the space station.

“Hidden Figures” is based on the upcoming book Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race written by Margot Lee Shetterly and will be published this fall.

Also look for Monae to star in Barry Jenkins’ coming of age story “Moonlight.”

Stay tuned…
