I know that many jazz lovers are anticipating the release of Don Cheadles’ Miles Davis biopic, “Miles Ahead” that opens nationwide in theaters on April 1. However, there is another story out there currently in theaters that may also be of interest too starring Ethan Hawke and Carmen Ejogo titled “Born to Be Blue.”
The movie follows the career of iconic jazz trumpeter Chet Baker and focuses on his romantic relationship with a bi-racial woman in the 1960’s. Apparently, Baker has lost his passion to play the horn after a violent attack leaves him with severe cuts on his lips and broken front teeth. However, he finds inspiration again through Jane that eventually leads him on the path to a career comeback.
Hawke portrays to troubled musician while Ejogo’s character, Jane symbolizes the various women in his life. “Born to be Blue” also features Kevin Hanchard as Dizzy Gillespie and Kedar Brown is Miles Davis.
