World renowned spoken word artist Marc Bamuthi Joseph is teaming up with the Atlanta Ballet for “20/20 Visionary” a brilliant mash-up of cultures and styles reflective of the vibrant diversity of Atlanta. The performances take place March 18-20 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
Joseph will appear alongside composer and musician Daniel Bernard Roumain for a visually stunning piece by Amy Seiwart titled, “Home in 7.” It is an emotionally charged exploration of Atlanta featuring seven scenes touching on darker stories of the past to southern belles to baseball.
“20/20 Visionary” will also feature “Boiling Point” a fast-paced work that heats up the stage as dancers push their bodies to their limits and showcase the searing, demanding athleticism of dance. It is choreographed by Darrell Grand Moultrie, who has also choreographed for megastar Beyoncé and Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus.
Rounding out “Visionary 20/20” is the world premiere of “Playground” from acclaimed British choreographer Douglas Lee whose inspiring and kinetic works have been performed by prestigious companies around the world, including New York City Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater 2, and now Atlanta Ballet.
