Check out the THR’s exclusive interview with the cast of the upcoming biopic, “The Birth of A Nation.” It is a film written and directed by Beyond the Light’s star Nate Parker and features Aja Naomi King, Aunjanue Ellis, Colman Domingo, Roger Guenveur Smith, Armie Hammer, Jackie Earl Haley and Penelope Ann Miller.
“The Birth of A Nation” chronicles the life and death of Nat Turner, the African-American slave who led a slave rebellion on August 21, 1831. The revolutionary freed Blacks and slaves that resulted in the deaths of 60 whites.
According to THR, the film and it’s director received a “rapturous standing ovation” before and after Monday’s viewing at the Sundance Film Festival. Parker, who reportedly took time away from acting to write the film, believes the film’s release is “perfect timing” and his co-star Gabrielle Union couldn’t agree more.
