If Beyoncé has her way, she will both write and star in a film about the tragic life of Sara Baartman, a young South African woman who was exhibited in London freak shows during the early 1800’s because of her large buttocks, breast, and elongated labia.

Baartman, who was also known as “Hottentot Venus,” was sold and taken to London where she was put on display against her will. She would later go to Paris where she also appeared in side shows. She died at the age of 25 and her body was dissected and put on display at the Museum of Man in Paris until the mid 70’s. Her remains were eventually returned to her home land in the early 2000’s.

According to The Sun, Bey has hired a team of acting coaches and writers to help her develop this project. The Grammy-winning singer wants to be taken seriously as an actress and hopes to add an Oscar to her collection of awards.

This is the second film project the she is currently working on. Last month, we reported that Bey and Bradley Cooper were teaming up for a remake of the classic film, “A Star is Born.”
