Denzel Washington to receive the Cecil B. De Mille Award

Congrats to Two-time Academy Award winning-actor Denzel Washington. He is the recipient of the Cecil B. De Mille Award and will be honored at the “73rd Annual Golden Globe® Awards” on Sunday, January 10, 2016.

According to the Golden Globe Awards website, Washington was chosen for his outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment. As a performer and filmmaker, he has earned seven Golden Globe nominations in two categories and resulting in two wins. He also has two Emmy nominations, One Tony Award, one BAFTA Award, one NAACP Image Award, and a Grammy Award for his narration of the legend of “John Henry.”  Washington is the third African-American actor to receive this honor. The other two recipients include Sidney Poitier and Morgan Freeman.

“Washington’s long and storied career is earmarked by his countless roles in front and behind the camera. It is the HFPA’s privilege to honor his contributions to the entertainment industry with the Cecil B. DeMille Award,” said Lorenzo Soria, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) in a statement.

The 2016 Golden Globe Awards will air LIVE coast-to-coast on NBC from 8:00-11:00 p.m. (EST) from the Beverly Hilton Hotel and is hosted by Ricky Gervais.
