Grammy winning-singer  Chrisette Michele stopped through Atlanta Monday night to host an private listening party for her soon-to-be-released album Milestone. The newly engaged diva talked to an intimate crowd at Clark Atlanta University’s Mass Media Arts Department about her career and her new project which she refers to as “trap-hop-soul.” It’s an amalgamation of Chrisette’s obsession for “all things trap music” infused with hip-hop beats and her rich, buttery vocals.

While Chrisette and her team were very gracious in allowing the mostly student audience to hear a few cuts from the project, she remained very tight-lipped about album details and forbade anyone from recording during the listening session. But let me assure you this, her new sound is one that fans and music lovers alike are going to appreciate. It really shows her growth as a woman and an artist and her admiration for various music genres. More than that, Milestone (hence the name) is allowing Chrisette to “be the girl she’s always wanted to be” and not marginalized to one single music category. The singer-songwriter, who has worked with everyone from Jay-Z to Robert Glasper, revealed that she is in a much better place professionally and is no longer afraid to take risks. The once timid and shy, church girl is now a “brave” woman who feels more secure about her future since announcing her engagement to friend and long-time music manager Doug Ellison.

Chrisette also applauded her dedicated fan base and claims that she often travels with their letters in her suitcase as inspiration. The 32-year-old also says that she is open to starring in another reality show and just recently participated in a curvy girl fashion campaign overseas. She would also love to record a gospel album when the time is right and welcomes collaborations with contemporary artists—Jhené AikoAndra Day and Sizzle.

Look for Milestone to drop in March of 2016, followed up by a summer tour featuring special guests.  Check out more photos below:
