Will Smith is one actor who is not afraid of going against the grain when it comes to the roles he plays. The multi-talented entertainer and film producer is suiting up to tackle the issue of NFL player safety in the upcoming true story titled, Concussion.
The dramatic thriller, whose trailer was released on Monday, tells the David vs. Goliath story of American immigrant Dr. Bennet Omalu, the brilliant forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of CTE, a football-related brain trauma, in a pro player and fought for the truth to be known. The film also stars acting veterans Alec Baldwin, Richard T. Jones, Hill Harper, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Mike O’Malley and Beyond the Lights starlet, Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
Because of the film’s controversial subject matter, The NFL has already released a statement in response to the trailer according to PEOPLE. Check it out below along with the 2-minute clip of Concussion.
“We are encouraged by the ongoing focus on the critical issue of player health and safety. We have no higher priority. We all know more about this issue than we did 10 or 20 years ago. As we continue to learn more, we apply those learnings to make our game and players safer,” the organization told Fox News.
