Is Will Smith reviving the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air?”
According to TVLine, Smith and his production company, Overbrook Entertainment are in the early stages of developing a family comedy that mirrors the classic 90s sitcom that made him a global superstar. Reportedly, Smith is putting the untitled project together with the hopes of shopping it around. Right now, he is only involved as the producer along with his partners James Lassiter, Caleeb Pinkett and Jada Pinkett Smith.
“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” was Smith’s first big TV gig after a very successful career as part of the rapping duo, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince. Smith’s character was a street-wise Philadelphia teen that was sent to go live with his well-to-do family in the Bel-Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. The Banks consisted of Will’s bougie Uncle Philip, Aunt Vivian and cousins Hilary, Ashley and Carlton and their outspoken butler, Geoffrey. The show ran from 1990-96 and included special appearances by many of Smith’s celebrity friends, Jasmine Guy, Queen Latifah, Tyra Banks, Tisha Campbell, Nia Long and Ben Vereen.
