Deadline is reporting that Straight Outta Compton executive producer, Will “Power” Packer is bringing a new Atlanta-based drama to NBC titled, Buckhead. The project is being described as an hour-long series about ambition, sex and revenge set in the extravagant, high stakes world of Atlanta politics, entertainment, churches and strip clubs. Buckhead is written and executive by David McMillian and co-executive produced by Packer and Kory Huggins.
Packer has been rather busy over the last few months. He already has another series on NBC titled, People Are Talking featuring my girl, Bresha Webb and the TV remake of Uncle Buck for ABC starring Mike Epps. He is also releasing a sequel to Ride Along next year with Kevin Hart and is currently working on a remake of the 70’s saga, Roots with the mini-series’ original star, LeVar Burton.
#REALTALK Buckhead reminds me of a television pilot I was apart of when I first moved to Atlanta in 1998. The show was titled, The Cascades and was based on the affluent African-American neighborhood of the same name. The area is known for its million dollar homes, flashy cars and over-the-top socialites. My character’s name was Travis and I was the son of an business tycoon who was first in line to inherit his dad’s fortune. While the show never materialized, I met some incredible people and got a better understanding of Atlanta and the inner circles who really run the city. I am so looking forward to seeing how this new project turns out.
Stay tuned…
