NBC has announced that it will be holding auditions in Los Angeles next week for the role of “Dorothy.” The network, who is currently working on a live television version of The Wiz, is looking for its new star. If you recall, auditions were held last month in New York City. Now, they will be held on Monday, July 20 at 3rd Street Dance in L.A.

Casting directors are reportedly looking for a young, African-American woman (age 18-27) who possesses “an extraordinary voice that can tell a story, as well as be mature with a youthful energy.” The actress must also be prepared to sing a short portion of some of the songs from the original Broadway production.

As previously reported, the musical’s original Dorothy, Stephanie Mills, has been cast as “Aunt Em.” The Wiz will air on NBC December 3 and will then go to Broadway for the 2016 season.

In other related news, R&B singer and actress, Brandy Norwood has expressed her interest in the role and most recently posted a video on her YouTube channel performing the show’s signature tune, “Home,” on the New York City subway. Norwood is currently on Broadway in the musical, Chicago. Check out her impromptu performance below:
