The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) honored Eric Tomosunas and Brett Dismuke, the CEO and President of The Swirl Group, during the organization’s 4th Annual SYNERGY – Atlanta reception at Northern Trust in Buckhead. Known for its tremendous output of independent films (“35 & Ticking, “Church Girl” and “24-Hour Love” among others), The Swirl Group is responsible for more than 70 films for TV partners that includes: BET, TV One, Bounce, Aspire, UPtv and others. The production company has contributed widely to growth of the cinema community throughout the southeast.

“Thank you so much for the AAFCA acknowledgement, and the award, says Eric Tomosunas, CEO of The Swirl Group. “This business can be stressful, and tough to navigate at times…we love it, and we give it all we’ve got….so, being recognized for that is a breath of fresh air. It’s humbling, and I appreciate it. My whole team appreciates it. Thank you for supporting the Swirl family, and for believing in and shining a spotlight on our work. Atlanta is emerging, and it’s because people are coming together to build this business in our city. Thank you for your part in all of that!”

AAFCA is the premiere African American film critics association in the United States, with a membership comprised of the nation’s leading black film journalists. The organization produces The AAFCA EXPERIENCE – a 3-day event that culminates with the AAFCA Awards annually during the Hollywood Awards Season. SYNERGY is another signature event from the organization that was created to recognize the growing film community in the southeast.

“We are thrilled to present our 4th annual event in the Atlanta market,” says AAFCA’s founder and President Gil Robertson. “The city has grown into a significant player in the world of TV and film production and through SYNERGY we salute the people who are making this happen. Through SYNERGY, our goal is to create an atmosphere where entertainment professionals in this region can meet, mix and mingle with their peers to plant the seeds of opportunity for themselves and others. ”
