Grammy® Award-nominated and multi-platinum R&B/pop singer, Deborah Cox has scored the lead role in the North American tour of the hit musical, “The Bodyguard.”

According to the show’s website, Cox will star as Rachel Marron, a singing superstar who hires a former secret service agent, Frank Farmer, to protect her from a stalker. Each expects to be in charge; what they don’t expect is to fall in love.

The musical is based on the based on Lawrence Kasdan’s 1992 Oscar nominated Warner Bros. film, which starred Cox’s friend, Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, and adapted by Academy Award-winner (Birdman) Alexander Dinelaris. “The Bodyguard” had its world premiere on December 5, 2012 and has been nominated for four Laurence Olivier Awards including Best New Musical and Best Set Design and won Best New Musical at the Whatsonstage Awards.

“The Bodyguard” features a host of Houston’s irresistible classics including “Queen of the Night,” “So Emotional,” “One Moment in Time,” “Saving All My Love,” “Run to You,” “I Have Nothing,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and one of the biggest selling songs of all time – “I Will Always Love You.”  The tour will launch in the fall of 2016. Additional casting will be announced a later date.

This is Cox’s second major musical for 2016. She will also star as Josephine Baker in the upcoming show, “JOSEPHINE!” She also was the musical voice of Houston in last year’s much talked about Lifetime biopic, “Whitney.”
