ASPiRE announced recently that Grammy® Award-winning music producer, recording artist and actor David Banner (Ride Along, Lee Daniel’s The Butler) has been named as the new host of the network’s popular original series “ABFF Independent,” a weekly two-hour show that presents the best independent shorts and documentaries from emerging African-American artists.  The series returns for a fourth season with seven all-new episodes in August, exclusively on ASPiRE.

In addition, a special sneak preview of the new series, hosted by Banner, will take place at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) in NYC on Saturday, June 13 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. ET at AMC Empire 25 (42nd Street Entertainment Center, 234 W 42nd St, NY, NY 10036).

“With our partner ABFF, we are thrilled to announce the bold fourth season of ‘ABFF Independent,’ with new host David Banner,” said Tina Thompson, director, programming, ASPiRE.  “David has brought an invigorating energy and enthusiasm to the show.  In the last three seasons, the series has exclusively debuted 130 short films and documentaries.  We are proud to provide a continuing spotlight for these exciting independent projects.”

“’ABFF Independent’ is an incredible vehicle for the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) and its alumni to have their stories brought to life in front of millions of television viewers around the country,” said Jeff Friday, ABFF Founder, and Founder and CEO of Film Life Inc.  “ASPIRE’s commitment to diverse storytelling is of great value to us and the filmmakers whose voices they help elevate.”
