IndieWire is reporting that screen legends Cicely Tyson and James Earl Jones are headed to Broadway this fall for a revival of D.L. Coburn’s “The Gin Game.”  The story revolves around Weller Martin and Fonsia Dorsey, two elderly residents at a nursing who become close friends over repeated games of gin rummy while engaged in lengthy conversations about their families and lives in the outside world. The original play debuted on Broadway in 1977 and starred Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy.

Tyson and Jones previously worked together in Jean Genet’s “The Blacks” in 1961 and “A Hand Is on the Gate” in 1966. Both actors are also Tony Award winners.  Previews begin on September 21 at the Golden Theatre and will officially open on October 13.

Stay tuned…
