Oscar winning-actor Common has been added to Rob Reiner’s upcoming film titled “Being Charlie.” The rapper inked a lead role alongside Nick Robinson and Morgan Saylor. Rounding out the cast is Devon Bostick, Susan Misner, Ricardo Chavira & Cary Elwes. Charlie is an 18-year-old who breaks out of a youth drug treatment clinic, but when he returns home to Los Angeles, he’s given an intervention by his parents and forced to go to an adult rehab. There, he meets a beautiful but troubled girl, Eva, and is forced to battle with drugs, elusive love and divided parents. No word yet what role Common will play. “Being Charlie” will debut in 2016. Tyler Perry is stepping from behind the camera to star in the next “Teeanage Mutant Ninja Turtle” sequel. Reportedly, Perry will play the role of scientist Baxter Stockman. In previous iterations of the franchise, Stockman was responsible for the creation of the Mousers, machines meant to seek out and destroy sewer rats. The villainous Shredder learns of this invention and hires Stockman as his own scientist with the intent of using the Mousers to destroy Splinter, mentor to the Turtles. Megan Fox and Will Arnett will also reprise their roles. The film is being produced by Michael Bay. [VARIETY]
David Oyelewo is teaming up with HBO for a one-man drama titled, “Nightingale.” In the film, Oyelowo plays a character named Peter Snowden, described as a man obsessing over an old army friend, whom he loves, as his life begins to spiral downward, with their reunion approaching. The film follows Peter as he records his private thoughts and feelings – his nightingale song – in the days leading up to his reunion with Edward. Before long the hostile world outside Peter’s door begins to threaten the idyllic future that he’s so desperately trying to build. Look for “Nightingale” to air on May 29, 2015 on HBO.[INDIEWIRE]
