I had the pleasure of attending the 2015 Phenomenal Woman Luncheon over the weekend at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. The invite only event took place during the 2nd Annual Women 2 Women Conference and honored the one and only Susan L. Taylor.

The former ESSENCE editor-in-chief and “most influential black women in journalism today,” was recognized for her recent work with National CARES as well as her trailblazing career in media.  During her inspirational speech, Taylor talked about the importance of faith and how a life changing encounter with a Florida youth named “Damian,” was the catalyst for her creating the national mentoring program.

The afternoon luncheon also featured a soul-stirring “call to action” speech by the luncheon’s second honoree, Edie Fraser, as well as musical entertainment by R&B songstress, Regina Belle, who performed the classic Color Purple tune, “Ms. Celie’s Blues (Sister)” and her hit single, “If I Could.”

Other Atlanta luminaries in attendance included Atlanta TV icon, Monica Pearson, Ambassador Andrew Young and his wife, Carolyn Young, former Coca-Cola executive, Ingrid Saunders Jones, Bishop Dr. Barbara King and everyone’s favorite TV psychologist, Sherry L. Blake, PhD.
