Fashion design students from Clark Atlanta University were treated to a special intimate conversation Thursday afternoon with media maven and star of Bravo’s Fashion Queens, Bevy Smith. The event was presented by Harlem’s Fashion Row (HFR) in partnership with McDonald’s and kicked off the 2015 Lovin’Student Fashion Design Competition.

As previously reported, HFR created this initiative as an opportunity to inspire the next generation of diverse and talented fashion leaders from historically black colleges and universities by providing mentorship and exposure to world of fashion. During the 90-minute discussion, Smith talked about her trailblazing media careers with VIBE and Rolling Stone. She also talked about how she transitioned into fashion and why Andy Cohen selected her for “Fashion Queens.” She also talked about serving as a fashion mentor to some of the hottest names in music today such as T.I. and Kanye West.  Following the discussion, students were able to ask her questions and take photos.

The grand prize winner of the contest will encounter the opportunity of a lifetime – a New York City photo shoot with a fashion photographer, Lunch with Bevy and a trip to New York City to experience New York Fashion Week with their design featured on limited-edition HFR signature t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts at the special HFR NYFW Shop, Brunch and Be Social event.  Additionally, the winner will also attend the HFR NYFW Fashion Show.
