Lifetime is not working on a Destiny’s Child Biopic

Despite all of the internet rumors, Lifetime is not producing a biopic about Destiny’s Child.

Apparently, this rumor was started after internet goons hacked Sony Pictures Entertainment email system and leaked confidential information from executives about actors, musicians and future film projects.  One of the emails included a December 2013 message from Beyoncé’s father and former manager, Matthew Knowles, who was reaching out to Sony about a possible Destiny’s Child biopic.

“Matthew Knowles, Beyoncé’s Father wants to make the film of Destiny’s Child and came to me first. He’s going to Universal next. Do we think it would be a successful film? They’re on Sony label. I’m just not sure that it’s not too soon.”

Adding fuel to the fire, the Daily Beast reported that while Sony execs were excited about the potential project, Lifetime was already working on a Destiny’s Child film beginning with production in February 2015.  Now, Lifetime is saying that the information reported by the Daily Beast is not true and there is no proposed film on the network’s development slate. The network just released a film about R&B Princess, Aaliyah and will debut an Angela Bassett directed film about the marriage of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown in January.

Destiny’s Child is without a doubt one of music’s most influential groups over the last 20 years and was certainly the catalyst for Beyoncé’s fore ray into superstardom. I’m certain a film about all of the members would be of interest to any movie studio or television network considering their award winning music catalogue and the legions of fans who are still looking for new music from the group.

The bigger question, in my humble and honest opinion, is who would play the leads. Also, would the biopic really answer the hard questions behind the rotating members and management’s alleged favoritism towards Beyoncé or would it be a “reimagined story” of their lives like “Dreamgirls” was for the The Supremes?

Only time will tell with this one. I am curious to know your thoughts on who you would cast in the roles. Hit me up and let me know your thoughts.
