Two premieres were held this week for Gina Prince-Bythewood’s new romantic drama, Beyond the Lights. One in Los Angeles and the other debuted in New York City. The film, which is a mix-up of The Bodyguard and Mahogany stars Belle actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Pride actor Nate Parker, in love story about a rising pop star who falls for a young cop despite protest from those around them. The film, which opens in theaters today, also stars Minnie Driver, Danny Glover, Colson “Machine Gun Kelly” Baker and a host of celebrity cameos including Chaka Khan, Big Sean, Roland Martin, Don Lemon, Rocsi Diaz, and the Chairman and CEO of BET,Debra L. Lee.
