Entertainment Weekly is reporting that supermodel Naomi Campbell is joining the cast of Lee Daniels’ upcoming Fox drama, Empire. The runway diva will have a reoccurring role as Camilla, who is being described as “an alluring woman involved in a steamy affair with the much younger potential heir to his father’s throne, Hakeem (Bryshere Gray), over whom she exercises considerable influence.”
“Naomi is a beautiful actress. Underrated in my mind,” Daniels said in a statement. “She will be wonderful as Camilla. I am truly thrilled to have one of my close friends join us.”
As previously reported, Empire follows a family-run-hip-hop dynasty governed by Lucious Lyons (Terrence Howard), who is attempting to take his record company, Empire Entertainment public. Taraji P. Henson plays Howard’s ex-wife, Cookie Lyons, who spent some time in prison for drug trafficking.
Rounding out the cast is Gabby Sidibe, Malik Yoba, Jussie Smollet, and newly added R&B legend, Gladys Knight. Timbaland is also on board as a songwriter and music producer for the series which will feature original and current music.
Campbell is currently on the October cover of W magazine. The issue is dedicated to Hollywood’s New Royals in which she has been named one of 12. She is also channeling Motown icon, Diana Ross in the photo that was taken by Dutch photography duo Inez & Vinoodh. Check it out below:
