Keke Palmer made history this week as the first African-American actress to portray Cinderella on Broadway. The 20-year-old TV/film star and talk show host was overwhelmed with emotion during the curtain call of her first show Tuesday night. She also shared that special moment with another Broadway virgin, Sherri Shepherd, who plays her evil stepmother, Madame in the show.

As previously mentioned, Palmer had some really big shoes to fill considering Grammy-winning singer and actress Brandy Norwood, portrayed Cinderella in the 1997 TV version of the fairytale alongside Whitney Houston. However, Palmer told Vanity Fair Hollywood last month that she was up for the challenge and couldn’t wait to perform in front of the live audience.

“Seeing that many people in the audience, who you can’t recognize,” said Palmer.  “That’s what excites you and gets you pumped.”
