TVLine.com is reporting that R&B legend Patti Labelle has been added to the cast of the award-winning FX series, American Horror Story: Freak Show.

The Grammy-winning singer and actress will appear in four episodes of the new season, starring as the mother of Gabourey Sidibe’s character. Reportedly, Ms. Labelle will play a local resident who begins to unravel the secrets of Twisty the clown killer. It is also being said that Ms. Labelle will not be singing on the show.

Set in Jupiter, Florida, in 1950’s, Freak Show  will feature veteran actress Jessica Lange as  a German ex-pat who is managing one of the last freak shows in the United States.  Her “freak show” characters will include AH  regulars Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and Frances Conroy.

This is not the first time Ms. Labelle’s has flexed her acting muscles. She has appeared in numerous TV and film projects throughout the 80’s and 90’s. One of her most memorable characters was the no-nonsense Adele Wayne, mother of Kadeem Hardison’s character, Dwayne Wayne on the hugely popular college series, A Different World.  She also starred in her own TV comedy, Out All Night  with Vivica A. Fox and Duane Martin. The 69-year-old diva was last seen on Broadway in the Tony-winning musical, After Midnight.

American Horror Story: Freak Show  returns to FX in October.
