Whether Beyoncé wins any of the eight awards for which she has been nominated at this year’s MTV VMAs is irrelevant considering she has already picked up the most coveted.
MTV has announced that the “flawless” diva is the recipient of this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. In addition, the 32-year-old singer will also take center stage during the ceremony in what is being described as an “epic” performance.
The Video Vanguard Award, also known as the Lifetime Achievement Award, is given to musicians who have made a profound effect on the MTV culture. The award was renamed The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in 1991. It is also given to video directors who have created some of the most popular and acclaimed music videos in MTV history like the iconic Hype Williams. Other past recipients include Britney Spears, Madonna, U2, LL Cool J, Janet Jackson, George Michael and last year’s honoree, Justin Timberlake.
Also scheduled to perform alongside Bey is Maroon 5, Usher, Ariana Grande and 5 Seconds of Summer with more acts to be announced later. The MTV VMAs air on Sunday, August 24 at 9 p.m.
Congrats Beyoncé !
