R&B Singer Bobby Womack dies at age 70

Rolling Stone is reporting that legendary R&B and soul music singer, Bobby Womack has passed away. According to his rep, he passed away on Friday at the age of 70. The cause of death is unknown, even though he suffered a series of health issues throughout the last few decades of his life including diabetes, pneumonia, colon cancer and most recently, early signs of Alzheimer’s disease.

Reportedly, Womack was in the process of recording a new album tentatively titled XL, with contributions from such iconic artists as Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart and Snoop Dogg.

Womack enjoyed a string of hit albums and records throughout his roller coaster career including Facts of Life and Looking for a Love Again. He is probably best known for his 1981 hit record, “If You Think You’re Lonely Now,” which was made popular again in the 90’s by the R&B group, Jodeci.

The celebrated singer was the subject of TV One’s popular music series UNSUNG a few season’s back, check out a clip below as well as a few other hit songs including my mother’s personal favorite, “Love Has Finally Come at Last” ft. Patti LaBelle and “I Wish He Didn’t Trust Me So Much.”
