Rock-n-Soul singer and Broadway diva, Fantasia has announced that she and R&B legends Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight are slated to open the 2014 Tony Awards tomorrow night.
The Grammy-winning vocalist, whose run in the show ends tomorrow, just announced the exciting news via her Facebook page. She posted the above photo of her on stage in rehearsal with the iconic performers along with the following caption:
“Tune in EARLY to CBS at 8pm Eastern time TOMORROW! The After Midnight cast featuring THESE ladies will open the Tony Awards! Are you ready?”
As previously reported, LaBelle will star in After Midnight (June 10-29) and Knight (July 8-August 3). R&B, Pop and Jazz vocalist, Natalie Cole is also scheduled to appear in the show (August 5-31). Previous stars included Toni Braxton, Babyface and Vanessa Williams.
After Midnight is nominated for seven Tony-nominations including ‘Best Musical” and “Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical” for Adriane Lenox. The show celebrates Duke Ellington’s years at the Cotton Club using his original arrangements and performed by a world-class big band of 17 musicians hand-picked by living jazz legend, Wynton Marsalis.
