CNN is reporting that Kevin Roper, a 35-year-old man from Jonesboro, GA is being charged in connection with a multi-vehicle wreck in New Jersey that resulted in critically injuring actor Tracy Morgan and the death of comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair.  The accident occurred early Saturday morning on the New Jersey turnpike when Roper’s tractor-trailer crashed into a limo bus carrying Morgan and five others including McNair.

“NJSP says the driver of the tractor-trailer failed to observe slow-moving traffic ahead,” Sgt. Gregory Williams of New Jersey State Police stated. “At the last minute, he swerved to try and avoid the Mercedes limo bus but struck it from behind, forcing the limo to rotate and overturn.”

According to the Morgan’s publicist, his condition has not changed on Saturday but that he is surrounded by his family.  “His family is now with him and he is receiving excellent care.”

The Saturday Night Live  and Emmy-nominated actor  is scheduled to perform at this year’s BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 29.
