‘After Midnight’ to close on June 29

Despite numerous Tony-nominations and a win (Best Choreography), special celebrity guest stars (Fantasia, Toni Braxton, Vanessa Williams, and Babyface), Broadway’s After Midnight  will take its final bow on Sunday, June 29.

According to The New York Times, the Jazz-inspired musical will close its doors after only eight months. Apparently, show producers were hoping to win the Tony Award for Best Musical in order to boost ticket sales. However, that honor went to the show, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder. They were also looking to temporarily shut down the musical the week of July 4, between scheduled guest stars Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight, to save money as well. Unfortunately, they couldn’t reach an agreement with the theatrical unions.  Reportedly, investors are now looking into a national tour of the show.

Stay tuned…
