Deadline is reporting that Spike Lee is developing a 30-minute series for Showtime based on his first feature film, She’s Gotta Have It.  Reportedly, the new adaptation will revisit Lee’s iconic characters and explore his unique and provocative points of view about race, gender, sexuality, relationships, and gentrification in Brooklyn.  Lee is set to write and direct the series as well.

She’s Gotta Have It  was released in 1986 and followed Tracy Camilla Johns as Nola Darling, a young, sexy Brooklynite and her three lovers—Jamie Overstree (Tommy Redmond Hicks), Greer Childs (John Canada Terrell) and Mars Blackmon (Spike Lee). The film also starred Spike’s sister, Joie Lee, S. Epatha Merkerson, and his father, Bill Lee.

The movie was shot in the summer of 1985 on a $175,000 budget and grossed over $7 million at the box office.
