Despite starting film production in Atlanta two weeks ago, Ava DuVernay is still adding more star power to her new film, Selma. The civil right’s epic recently cast Oscar-winning stage and film actor, Cuba Gooding Jr.
The 46-year-old star, who is also filming BET’s adaptation of The Book of Negroes, is slated to play attorney and activist Fred Grey. He also joins a long list of A-List players including David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, Ledisi, Common, Wendell Pierce, Martin Sheen, and Tom Wilkinson.
As previously reported, Selma chronicles the march African-Americans made from Selma to Montgomery in 1965 in order to gain voting rights. The film is being produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B and Oprah Winfrey along with Bradford Young serving as the film’s Director of Photographer.
